How to crochet a Popcorn Wall Hanging. They are fun to make, look great as home decor hangings, and make an amazing gift! My daughters have many that are macrame, something I have yet to learn, but crocheting them will do for now. I thought I would share this with you all so you can experience this DIY project and make your own.
How to Crochet A Popcorn Wall Hanging
The yarn:
So, for this pattern, you will need these;
Bernat Handicrafter Cotton 14 oz. (674 yards)
Bernat Handicrafter Cotton Solid White 1.75 oz. (80 yards)
H Hook
1/2 inch dowel-14 inches long

Stitch Abbreviations:
ch-chain
sc-single crochet
dc-double crochet
sl st-slip stitch
y/o-yarn over
pop-popcorn

Special Stitches:
Popcorn (right side rows): Make 4 dc in the next st, drop the loop from your hook, insert the hook from the front of the first dc made, and insert the hook into the dropped dc, y/o a pull-through.
Popcorn (wrong side rows): Make 4 dc in the next st, drop the loop from your hook, insert the hook from the back of the first dc made, and insert the hook into the dropped dc, y/o a pull-through.

Multiples are 16 plus 5
Gauge is not important
The pattern is written in American Terminology
Finished measurements: 12 inches wide and 20 inches long before the fringe
NOTE: Each even number row is on the right side
Odd number rows are on the wrong side

dc in 4th ch from hook (counts as dc), *ch 3, skip next 3 chs, (pop in the next ch, ch 1, skip next ch), 4 times, pop in the next ch, ch 3, skip next 3 chs, dc in the next ch; rep from * across, dc in last ch, turn (15 pop, 6 dc)
Row 2: WS
ch 3 (counts as dc), skip 1st dc, dc in the next dc, dc in the next ch 3 sp,
* ch 3, (pop, ch 1) in each of the next ch 1 sp, pop in the next ch 1 sp, ch 3, dc in the next ch 3 sp, dc in the next dc, dc in the next ch 3 sp; rep from * across, ending with last dc in 3rd ch of turning ch, turn (12 dc, 12 pop)

Row 1:
sl st to join the last row, as seen in the picture above. Ch 3 (counts as first dc) of the pop, finish pop st, ch 1, sk next dc, pop in the next, rep 3 times, turn (5 pop)
Row 2:
sl st to join the last row, as seen in the picture above. Ch 3 (counts as first dc) of the pop, finish pop st, ch 1, sk next dc, pop in the next, rep 2 times, turn (4 pop)
Row 3:
Ch 3 (counts as first dc) of the pop, finish pop st, ch 1, sk next dc, pop in the next, rep 1 times, turn (3 pop)
Row 4:
Ch 3 (counts as first dc) of the pop, finish pop st, ch 1, sk next dc, pop in the next, turn (2 pop)
Row 5:
Ch 3 (counts as the first dc) of the pop, finish pop st, (1 pop) finish off and weave in the end.
Repeat this process. Rows 1-5 2 more times at each dc area.
For the fringe:
I cut strips of cotton measuring 24 inches. I wanted a semi-long fringe. Below is a link on how to add the fringe or tassels.
You can either chain the desired length and glue it to the back of the dowel for hanging, or I can use a white shoestring, cut it to where I want it to hang, and hot glue it to the back.
